Remix Client Spotlight- Danielle
1.Tell us about you… background, family, work, etc.
My name is Danielle, I’m 31. Married to the greatest guy ever for 5 years and together a total of 13! We have an incredible 16 month old son and an adorable furbaby – our westie Buffy.
I work as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant- think nurse practitioner to a dentist. I get to place actual fillings on patients and all kinds of other fun stuff.
Even though my current job is satisfying, I’m actually still in school to pursue a degree in Public Health. There are so many things I want to do to help people, and even though I know I’m not Super Woman, I think this will be the best way to accomplish this goal.
2. How and why did you start taking Remix classes?
About 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. It was during a time when I was in the best shape of my life. I was power-lifting and getting ready to sign up for my first competition! I even had my personal training certification! However, physically my legs were starting to feel like Jello to the point where I had a hard time walking some days. My hands were swollen to the size of what I imagine Mickey Mouses hands to be. On top of that- I felt exhausted and painfully sore. All. The. Time.
Flash forward a few years, lots of different medications, a baby and not being able to workout the way I like, I was pushing 200 lbs.
I had tried different types of low impact workouts to avoid a fibro flare. I tried yoga, Pilates reformers, another barre studio, going back to my old gym, beach body workouts- nothing felt right. Yoga wasn’t enough for me, yet the workouts I used to do were physically to much. I just couldn’t find the right “mix” for me.
When I saw a new gym opening, I was intrigued but hesitant to try it. I was so out of shape at that point, everything else I had tried hadn’t worked and I was just overall nervous about feeling defeated again.
Luckily, I took a chance this past August and went to Mary Cate’s Wednesday morning trial class.
I’m pretty sure I almost died that day- I got my butt kicked! I was drenched in sweat. I was SO out of shape! But i LOVED every single second. I haven’t turned back since.
I was also able to bring my son to the Lil Remix Playroom and it was the first time since I had him that I had a real workout all to myself.
3. What do you love about Remix classes?
What’s not to love!?
I love the ENERGY! I love how friendly everyone is, all of the instructors and the welcoming feeling that radiates from the building.
Every single workout is different and the music is always great.
I personally also love Tricia’s themed playlists – they keep me so entertained.
And Sara! Shes great with my son- I feel so comfortable leaving him in her care.
I also love that classes are only 45 minutes, I think it’s great that I don’t feel like I am planning my entire day around an unnecessarily long class, waiting around for equipment or mindlessly running on cardio machines. You get in, get your butt kicked in 45 effective fun minutes and get on with the rest of your day.
4. What are the changes you’ve seen in yourself?
I am down over 25 pounds!! Half way to my goal!
I feel stronger than I have in years. I love that I don’t need to move 200+ pounds to change my body and feel strong again. I am starting to feel as good as I used to – STRONG! CONFIDENT! HAPPY!
I still have a ways to go physically, but I’m getting there and confident I will get there with the help of Remix.
5. When can we typically find you taking Remix classes?
I am pretty faithfully at Mary Cates Wednesday and Friday 9:30am with my son in tow to the little remixers playroom.
I strive to get there another 2 times during the week depending on my schedule.
6. What would you tell anyone that hasn’t tried Remix classes yet?
Do it! Try it! You wont regret it!
