How to Prepare for Summer Vacations

Summer vacations are a great opportunity to get away, wind down and decompress.

After a long winter and busy spring, you deserve to take some time to relax!

How to Prepare for Summer Vacations

Hydrate

Pack a reusable water bottle and make sure you’re drinking plenty of water. It’s easy to get dehydrated on a plane, so always being mindful to keep water nearby can help.

Summer vacation can often a be a time you let loose when it comes to your alcohol consumption. Just remember: everything in moderation!

Pack healthy, light snacks

Nuts, dried and fresh fruit and veggies and hummus are great options to bring along with you so you are staying on track when it comes to your diet.

When you have healthy snacks on hand, it’s easier to not go overboard when it comes to the desserts and not-so-nutritious foods.

If you are staying at a place with a kitchen, you can even make some of your own meals. We go down the shore with my family every summer for a week and each couple gets a different night to plan out a dinner. It’s nice because you aren’t cooking every night, but you also aren’t stuck eating pizza for five nights straight either.

Plan some active activities

Vacations don’t necessarily need to just include sitting and relaxing. Plan some active activities that you wouldn’t normally do while you are at home. See the sights with a walking tour or go hiking and soak up the scenery. Jump in the pool or ocean. You can even try a new activity you haven’t done before like surfing, paddle boarding or biking.

Book that massage

Catch up on those zzz’s

It may be tempting to stay up late while on vacation, however, it’s also a great time to catch up and get back on track when it comes to your sleep routine.

Think about why you want to go on vacation in the first place. If you’re looking to recharge, refocus and come back feeling refreshed, then sleep is crucial.

Leave that phone out of your room, shut the blinds and focus on you!
