How to Stay Healthy At Any Stage of Your Life

Focus on the warmup

Isn’t it amazing how little kids can go from sitting on the floor to bouncing off the walls in a matter of seconds? As we get older, it gets more challenging to jump right into activity.

Though it’s tempting to skip the warmup, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to warm up your body with dynamic movements before you dive into the workout. Whether it’s walking around, doing some high knees or hamstring curls or arm circles, you want to ease yourself into the workout.

If you’re running late, park further away so you have time to warmup as you walk into class. If class has already started, use the workout as a warmup. Instead of picking up the weights right away, focus on body weight until you are nice and warm and ready to go.

Add in Stretching

Again, it’s tempting to just get and go once the workout ends, but static stretching is really good for you after your muscles are nice and warm following your workout. Feel free to stay after class and continue to stretch those muscles or join us for one of our yoga, pilates or flex classes for a deeper dive into stretches.

Grab a tennis ball or foam roller to use at night time. If you want to avoid injury and maintain your flexibility as you age, then adding in plenty of stretching is the way to go.

Focus on Strength

Another crucial, important piece to add in as you age is strength training. It’s good for your joints and your bones and will help prevent injury. You can add in a mix of endurance strength training that comes with barre and pilates workouts as well as heavier weights in our lifting and sculpt classes.

**Though strength is important, you don’t want to push cardio away completely! Spin is a great low impact workout OR stick with level ones in any of our cardio classes to get your heart rate up so you strength it and your lungs.

Go at YOUR Pace

Finally, it’s so important no matter what your age or your level to go at YOUR pace. We work hard to make Remix a safe, nonjudgemental space where you can work at your level. Instructors will provide options and be sure to take what works for you and listen to your body. It’s your body and ultimately you know it best!!
