The Top 3 Things We’ve Learned This Past Year
Wow! Can you believe that we are just about to start a brand new year?!
I don’t know about you, but 2021 felt like it just flew by. Once again, it’s been an interesting and challenging year for many. Things have been “sort of” back to normal, but not really. We’ve had to adjust and adapt and, as always, mix it up.
It’s been great to get back inside while still enjoying the opportunity to mix it up with you at home on virtual. We’ve added to our team and our schedule and have opened up our second location! We’ve certainly have a lot to be grateful for this past year. We’ve also learned a lot.
Keep reading for the top 3 things we’ve learned this past year.
The Top 3 Things We’ve Learned This Past Year
The Importance of Time Management & Systems & Processes
During the year 2020, if you were like us, you were doing whatever you could to survive and maintain during the chaos and craziness. Though things were not back to the normal that we knew before, 2021 gave us the opportunity to focus on our time management, systems and processes. During 2020, we didn’t even have a chance to build our systems and processes because things kept changing and we had to keep adapting. In 2021, we realized that we were long overdue for better time management, systems, and processes.
If you’re still feeling like you’re flying by the seat of your pants and can’t find even one minute to yourself, then here are some tips that we have discovered which have really made a difference for us and our productivity!
Create a system for everything! There are things that happen in the studio and in our homes that seem like no brainer tasks, yet, without a system we create more work for ourselves. Yes, taking out the trash may seem like something anyone could figure out on their own, but where do you put the bags? When do you take the trash out? How often? Who does it? If you don’t know all the answers to those questions then you may find that each week you are wasting time wondering where you put the trash bags and fighting over who has to take it out.
Create one place for organizing all of your to dos. We learned this one from an incredible time management coach Megan Sumrell. Raise your hand if you love creating to do lists for yourself. How many lists do you create? Where are those lists? If you’re scattering to do lists all over your house then you are bound to lose track of something. Instead, keep all of those lists in one spot. Once you have that master list then you can prioritize so you actually get things done.
Schedule to dos and block off time to get them done. This was another tip we learned from Megan. We actually take time each week to schedule out the week and months ahead. We look at that master list, take note of our priorities and how long each task will take and schedule it into our calendar. When those to dos, along with exercise and meal planning are actually in your schedule, you are more likely to get them done.
Try a time audit! This was really eye opening for us when we did it this past year. If you’ve ever wondered at the end of the day, “where did all my time go?” then this is something you’re going to want to try. We downloaded a simple time audit app and tapped it whenever we changed tasks. It helped us get a sense of how long things were taking us to do and helped us really focus on being more efficient with our time. It also helped us identify some major time wasters.
The Importance of Connection & Community
After the year 2020, I think we’ve all realized the importance of connection and community. We’ve felt really lucky that despite not being able to be physically present with many of you last year that we were still able to stay connected through virtual classes. We’ve continued to lean into our community and that connection this past year as well.
When a terrible tornado hit our community this past September, it was heartening to see our community come together to offer comfort and support to one another. When a member of our community lost her baby, we were blown away with the amount of love and kindness shown during our Aerobics for Aubrey event.
No matter if it was one of those big events or even small gatherings and get togethers, it felt so good to be able to count on a friendly, welcoming face at Remix. We even welcomed a number of new Remix members over this past year. ALL of our members whether they have been with us since the beginning or just joined this past month, are kind, motivating, inspiring and always welcoming to new comers. It’s a great thing to witness and experience day in and day out.
The Importance of Mixing it Up
Finally, 2021, just like the years before, has taught us to really lean into the reason we started Remix in the first place. It’s been just over 3 years since we’ve started Remix and it’s never been more clear the importance of mixing it up.
Life is chaotic. Life is crazy. Life will constantly throw you curveballs. It’s not about all the obstacles and interruptions that flood your day. It’s about how you handle them. That’s what makes you stronger.
Yes, there have been some ups and downs, but we are so glad that our name is Remix. Mixing it up has made so much possible. We’ve been introduced to so many interesting and motivating people. We’ve been able to welcome so many talented and inspiring instructors and staff onto our team. We’ve been able to grow and build and expand Remix to include a brand new location in Plymouth Meeting.
As we roll into 2022, we look forward to seeing what the future has in store for us. There’s one thing that’s for sure- we’ll keep mixing it up!
