4 Ways to Practice Gratitude

Who’s ready for turkey?!

November is here and that means that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays because of the food (of course) as well as getting together with family and friends. We also believe in the importance of practicing gratitude.

how group fitness classes can help you be grateful

When you live a life filled with gratitude, you live a healthier, happier life. Though it really goes without saying that it’s important to practice gratitude, what are some ways that you can try to practice gratitude in your own life? With our always busy lives, it can sometimes be easier said than done.

Keep reading to find out some simple ways to practice gratitude in your life.

4 Ways to Practice Gratitude

Write it down.

Most of us know that we should be grateful, but during our busy lives we often forget to stop and appreciate all that we have. Take some time everyday or even once a week to journal things you are grateful for. Short on time? It’ll take 2 minutes or less to write one thing that you are grateful for. Tip: Be specific. Instead of writing down, “I’m thankful for my friends,” write down why you are grateful for your friends. “I’m grateful for my friends because they sent me a text and checked in on me when I was feeling down.”

Set reminders for yourself.

We set reminders for work, for working out, why not set them as a reminder to practice being grateful. While you are taking the time to plan out your upcoming week or month, set little reminders for yourself to reach out to those around you to send them a thanks and show them your gratitude. It’ll not only help you be a better friend and family member because you’ll be making a conscious effort to reach out more, but it’ll be a nice reminder for you to celebrate all the things in life you have to be grateful for.

Take some time to unplug.

If you’ve ever found yourself caught up scrolling through social media and feeling left out or inadequate, then it might be time to take a little break. If you do go on social media, set timers for yourself so you don’t end up in a black hole scrolling aimlessly for hours. While you’re on there, be sure to reach out to family and friends and share positive content that’ll help motivate or cheer someone up. Then, find some other things to take up your time that are good for you, like going to a group fitness class at Remix or going outside or reading a good book.

Focus on your mindset.

It’s amazing how much impact changing a few simple words around can do. We’ve mentioned before that changing out the word “have to” with “get to” can really turn a positive spin on most anything in your life. You don’t “have to” workout; you “get to” workout! You are so fortunate that you have your health and your body allows you to move and mix it up.

Another way to think about things differently is to try to change from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Those with a fixed mindset tend to think things like intelligence and talents are innate. “Oh no, I’m not coordinated!” is something you may hear from someone with a fixed mindset. Instead, those with a growth mindset believe that with practice, effort and determination, you can grow your talents and skills.

During this month of November, we are going to be taking the time to practice gratitude and we hope you’ll join us too. We are so thankful to be able to move our bodies and to be able to join together with our amazing community every day.
