How to Prepare for a Change in Your Schedule

The end of May is often seen as the unofficial beginning of summer around here. The weather starts to turn and many of us head down the shore on weekends or start to make other summer plans.

Things start to get busier for some OR you may be a teacher and see your schedule start to open up a bit over the summer.

No matter what, you may find that you will be soon faced with a change in your schedule.

If you’re been on track with your health and wellness, then a sudden change in your schedule can be an obstacle for maintaining those fitness and health goals.

Here’s how to overcome those challenges and prepare for a change in your schedule so you stay on track!

How to Prepare for a Change in Your Schedule

Maintain a Routine

First, no matter what gets thrown your way or how your schedule changes, it’s good to really lean into your daily routines. Even though your schedule may be changing, your daily routines, like exercising, eating healthy, getting enough sleep, don’t need to change.

It’s more about how to fit those routines in your new schedule vs whether or not they should stay there.

If you were waking up earlier during the winter/fall/spring, then maybe you want to switch things up and have your daily health routines at the end of the day. Or, maybe you want to take advantage of the longer days and start your day with your routines if you’ve got lots of busy plans ahead of you.

You may want to look into setting up your virtual workout plan in case you are going to be going away more.

No matter how your schedule is going to change, you can still maintain those routines.

Plan & Schedule Ahead of Time

The key to keeping those health and wellness routines in check even with a schedule change? Plan and schedule ahead of time.

Add in time each week in your calendar to map out the next week. This will ensure that you actually make time for those health and wellness routines as opposed to just saying you want to do them. It can also help you see how much time you realistically have available for those routines.

Be flexible

When your schedule changes, it can be easy to throw your hands in the air and bail out on some of your health and wellness goals.

Remember, it doesn’t need to be all or nothing.

Be flexible with your routines and know that even a little bit of working out, even if it’s just jumping into a virtual class for 15 minutes is better than not doing anything at all.

Instead of completely dismissing an earlier time slot to workout because it’s not something you’ve done before, give it a try! You never know until you try. You may find that you can be a morning workout person after all.

Instead of brushing off virtual classes because you are more of an “in person” type of person, give it a try! We can’t count the number of clients who initially were against trying virtual classes who now absolutely love them when they are on the go or if they don’t have enough time to get to the studio.
