How to Overcome Lazy Summer Days

July is about the time when the heat and humidity really start to kick in over here outside of Philadephia.

As it gets hotter, it can be tempted to kick your feet up and call it a day. There’s a reason that they call it the “lazy days of summer” or is it the “dog days of summer?” Side note: I had to look it up and even though I thought that they called it, “dog days of summer” because it’s that time of year dogs just lay around, it’s actually from the Ancient Greeks because of the dog star constellation is in the sky during this time of year.

No matter you want to call it; it’s a hot one and finding the motivation to stay healthy, active and strong can be tough!

Fortunately, we have some tips to help you overcome lazy summer days…

How to Overcome Lazy Summer Days

Get moving

This may seem obvious, but the more you move, the easier it is to stay moving. An object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon am I right? I’m really bringing out all of my elementary school science days today!

Set timers for yourself throughout the day to get up, stretch, go for a walk, even if it’s too hot to go outside. Those apple watches with built in reminders come in handy as well!

Whenever I am feeling lazy and don’t feel like completing a task, I ask myself if the task will take less than two minutes. If the answer is yes, then I just get up and get it done. Once I start moving and going, then I feel better and more energized.

Mix things up

Summer is the perfect time to mix things up and try something new. Have you been wanting to get into spin? Maybe you’ve been shying away from taking barre classes?

Now is a great time to step out of your comfort zone. When you try new things, your brain lights up and it’ll keep you engaged. It doesn’t take much either!

Even something as simple as grabbing a new tank top in a color you don’t normally wear may help you get motivated and energize to get back at your goals.

Start small

So many of us fall into that all-or-nothing mindset trap.

Well, I don’t feel like doing a tough workout right now, so I’m going to just sit here and relax instead.

If you’re feeling lazy and finding it tough to get motivated, start small.

  • Join a virtual class for even just a few minutes to get moving. Odds are once you get started, you’ll want to keep going.

  • Try a 30 minute class!

  • Pop on one of our 5-10 minute instagram workouts that we have been sharing for the summer.

  • Promise yourself that you’ll stick with level 1 in class

  • Try a yoga or flex class

  • Head outside for a walk or walk around your house

Though it can be tough to get motivated as the weather heats up, we are here to help get you motivated, moving so you can be healthy, active and strong all summer long. Need more guidance?
