How to Instantly Brighten Your Mood

Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go right?

Your coffee spills, your kids are refusing to get in the car to leave or your air conditioner breaks on a 90 degree day.

Sometimes it can be difficult to pull yourself out of a bad mood, but we’ve got some simple, proven ways to help brighten your mood!

First, if you want to brighten your mood and someone else’s, the number one way is to give back to others. Last week we shared that there are numerous studies out there that show that giving back to others not only makes you feel good (aka brighten your mood), but is actually good for your health too.

How can you give back to others? You can share! Here are some easy ways to share with others to brighten your mood and theirs.

  • Share a smile- you know that saying “fake it till you make it?” Well, there is some evidence that shows that if you put a smile on your face it’ll help boost your mood, so give it a try and smile at someone else. Smiles can be contagious after all.

  • Share a compliment- make someone’s day with some genuine words that’ll mean a lot to them. The more you compliment, the better those around you feel and the better you feel as well.

  • Share an experience with someone- go for a walk, take a Remix class together (you can pass along a free week to use for your friends!), or cook something healthy together (try a healthy recipe from our registered dietitian’s collection).

Other ideas to instantly brighten your mood…

  • Get some movement in! Endorphins help make you feel good, so book a class and jump in whether in person or virtual.

  • Visualize your best self… think about all of your favorite qualities about yourself will help to put a smile on your face.

  • Get outside… being outside in nature, soaking up some sunshine can also help boost your mood. We’ve got some outside classes on the schedule, so book them up to get some of that outside time!

  • Try something new. Our brains light up when we face new experiences, so be sure to mix up your routine.

  • Take some time to acknowledge the things you are thankful for… write down what you’re thankful for. It helps take our mind off the negatives in our life and helps us focus on the positives.

How about you? Let us know. What have you tried that has helped instantly boost your mood. Email your response to [email protected] and don’t forget to sign up for your free week if you haven’t already.
