Client Spotlight with Julie

Julie has been with Remix since the beginning when we opened our doors over two years ago. We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Julie and have been so impressed watching her get stronger and build her endurance. When she talks about our members being welcoming and kind, she is most certainly included in that mix. We love having Julie a part of the Remix Family, and can’t wait for you to read her story.

Why are you a Remixer?

I first gave Remix a try back when there were pop up classes and the gym hadn’t opened yet. I figured the class was free and it would be something different than my normal workouts at one of the big box gyms. After my first class, I was sore in places I didn’t even know I had muscles. 🤣 I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I enjoyed the workouts even though they kicked my butt. When the gym finally opened, I was there on the first day and I signed up figuring I could cancel if I decided I didn’t really like it. Well two plus years later and it’s still the place I spend the most time outside of home and work.

Once you’re a member, expect so much more than just workouts. Remix is the kind of place where the instructors ask how your new job is going, give you a birthday shout out during class, or design an entire class to help celebrate when you get married during a lockdown.

What brought you to Remix, and why have you stayed?

I was always intimidated by the thought of group fitness classes. I worried about not being strong enough, fast enough, good enough. I thought it was something for fit people and I didn’t think that description matched me. However, once I tried Remix, I never once felt out of place. I remember talking to Tricia and Mary Cate before my very first class. They told me what to expect and offered various levels during class. After class, they checked in again and thanked me me for coming. All of my worries had disappeared as soon the class started.

Over the last few years with Remix, I’ve fallen in love with the gym. My friends all make fun of me because I spend so much time talking and posting about it. Once you come though, you understand. It’s so much more than a gym, it’s a community. When I was new, every instructor introduced themselves to me. They checked in after class to see how I liked it. Now when I arrive, it’s like arriving to hang out with old friends. I like getting there early to chat with the instructors and other members. It’s about so much more than just the workout.

Once class starts, I love that each instructor holds me accountable. When I’m by myself working out, it’s easy to give up or say tomorrow I’ll try harder. It’s not so easy when Marisa sees me struggling and calls me out by name to cheer me on or Meg tells us all we’re bad ass b*tches and we got this. I mean who wants to give up after that?

What would you tell others who haven’t tried Remix?

Remix is the kind of place that makes you want to get up at 5 in the morning to workout outside when it’s freezing outside. It’s the kind of place where every single person, from the amazing owners, to the instructors, to the person next to you during class all want you to succeed. Remix offers an incredible variety of classes with fabulous instructors. The variety, as well as the different levels and modifications, make it an ideal place to work on your fitness goals whether you’re new to working out or have been a fitness fiend for years. If you’ve been thinking about it, come by the studio and feel the amazing energy for yourself or try it out from the comfort of your own home through a virtual class. When your first class is free, what do you have to lose?

What makes Remix stand out among the rest?

Remix offers a wide variety of classes. Looking for something low impact? Meet me at the barre! Want to get sweaty? See you at cardio sculpt. Need to tone up? Grab your heavy weights and get ready to lift. The instructors here won’t let you get bored and I especially love their creative themed classes around the holidays.

Another thing that makes Remix stand out is the close-knit community. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. If you’re new, don’t be surprised if the instructors and the other people in the class check in to see how you liked it. Once you’re a member, expect so much more than just workouts. Remix is the kind of place where the instructors ask how your new job is going, give you a birthday shout out during class, or design an entire class to help celebrate when you get married during a lockdown. Be prepared to be challenged because as Emily likes to say, “What doesn’t challenge you, doesn’t change you.” This is the kind of place that makes you want to keep coming back!
